Parasite will soon arrive on our small screens. Director Bong Joon-Ho, who helmed the Oscar-winning South Korean film, has confirmed that work on HBO's TV series is progressing smoothly, and amid speculations, it was still in development as of early 2025. The project is not a direct remake, but touted to be an original story set within the same world. The original 2019 film, in 2020, won the Academy Award for Best Picture, becoming the first non-English-language film to do so. Starring Song Kang-Ho, Lee Sun-Kyun, Cho Yeo-Jeong, Choi Woo-Shik, Park So-Dam, Jang Hye-Jin, Park Myung-Hoon, and Lee Jung-Eun, Parasite went on to become a benchmark in Korean cinema and Bong's classic filmography. It’s taking some time, but it’s progressing quite smoothly," he said. The HBO Parasite TV series is a planned limited series adaptation. Adam is known for The Big Short, Vice, and Succession. Thus, the TV series is not a remake, but an expanded universe of Parasite. It'll enable a deeper exploration of the characters' backstories, along with bringing to the fore the side plots and events hinted at in the film. The series aims to explore details Bong couldn't fit into the movie's runtime. In fact, it is expected to be a dark comedy, similar in tone to the film.'
