It includes questions from Indian History, Geography, Indian Polity and Governance, Economic and Social Development, Environmental Ecology, General Science, and Current Affairs. The paper consists of 100 questions carrying a total of 200 marks, with negative marking for incorrect answers. The focus of GS Paper I is to evaluate conceptual clarity, analytical ability, and the application of knowledge rather than rote memorisation. It covers both static portions of the syllabus as well as dynamic areas linked to recent developments in national and international affairs. The Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT) Paper II is a qualifying paper designed to test basic aptitude and reasoning skills. It includes comprehension passages, logical reasoning, analytical ability, interpersonal skills, decision-making, and basic numeracy. CSAT also consists of 80 questions carrying 200 marks in total, with negative marking applicable. However, candidates are required to score only the minimum qualifying marks for this paper, while GS Paper I determines merit ranking for the Preliminary stage. The comprehension section evaluates reading and interpretation skills, while the quantitative aptitude section covers topics such as percentages, ratios, averages, time and work, and basic arithmetic. Logical reasoning questions assess pattern recognition, analytical thinking, and problem-solving ability. With both papers now concluded, the official question papers released by UPSC will be available after the examination cycle is completed.
