Secretary of State Marco Rubio addresses a press briefing at US Embassy, in New Delhi. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who is on a four-day visit to India, on Sunday said that progress had been made in ongoing diplomatic efforts involving the United States and Iran. Rubio further hinted that negotiations could be moving closer to a potential breakthrough and said that there is a possibility of "good news" regarding the peace deal with Iran later today. Rubio stated that developments could take place in the coming hours and indicated that "good news" related to the Strait situation could emerge soon. However, he maintained that negotiations are still underway. Further talking about the concerns related to the Strait of Hormuz, the US Secretary of State described it as an international waterway that should remain open and not come under the control of any one country. “Some progress has been made on path to peace, I will leave it to the President," Rubio said while speaking during his India visit. In addition to this, Rubio, while speaking alongside External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar during a joint press conference in New Delhi, highlighted the similarities between the two democracies and stated that democratic systems create natural alignment between India and the United States. He said that India and the United States share a strategic partnership that extends far beyond traditional alliances. "The US and India aren't just allies. We are strategic allies and that's of critical importance. We obviously work with countries all over the world on a variety of issues, but our strategic partnership is what sets this relationship apart because it's not simply limited to the region, it extends to offer opportunities to cooperate globally in different regions of the world," Rubio said.
