Trump Goes Off After White House Shooting, Calls It ‘Obsession With America’s Most Sacred Structure’ US President Donald Trump on Sunday reacted to the shooting near the White House, praising the Secret Service and law enforcement agencies for their “swift and professional” response that resulted in the killing of the 21-year-old suspect. In a post on Truth Social, Trump described the incident as another reminder of the growing security threats surrounding what he called “our Country’s most cherished structure.” “Thank you to our great Secret Service and Law Enforcement for the swift and professional action taken this evening against a gunman near the White House, who had a violent history and possible obsession with our Country’s most cherished structure,” Trump wrote. The president also referenced another recent security scare during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner held a month ago, arguing that future presidents would require unprecedented levels of protection in Washington, DC. “The gunman is dead after an exchange of gunfire with Secret Service Agents near the White House gates. This event is one month removed from the White House Correspondents’ Dinner shooting and goes to show how important it is, for all future Presidents, to get what will be the safest and most secure space of its kind ever built in Washington, DC. The National Security of our Country demands it!” he added. Earlier in the day, panic broke out near the White House after a gunman allegedly opened fire at a security checkpoint close to the presidential complex, triggering an immediate federal security response. The suspect, identified as Nasire Best, was shot dead by Secret Service personnel at the scene. Best allegedly identified himself as Jesus Christ moments before the shooting. As per reports published by the New York Post, the suspect was seen pacing suspiciously near 17th Street Northwest before allegedly pulling out a revolver and firing multiple rounds toward officers stationed at the checkpoint. The shooting occurred while Trump was inside the White House amid ongoing diplomatic discussions concerning Iran and a proposed Middle East peace framework involving multiple regional nations.
