Mumbai, Bengaluru to host campuses of 3 leading Foreign Universities Under NEP 2020 University of Bristol and University of York will be establishing their offshore campuses in Mumbai (Maharashtra), while University of New South Wales will set up their campus in Bengaluru (Karnataka). "Under NEP 2020, India is advancing “internationalisation at home” by welcoming leading global universities while also enabling Indian institutions to expand globally. With campuses in Mumbai and Bengaluru, these institutions will connect global education with India’s leading knowledge, technology and innovation hotspots," the Ministry of Education (MoE) stated in an official tweet on X. The Ministry has also stated that these offshore campuses of foreign universities "will offer future-focused academic and research opportunities in areas such as AI, Cyber Security, Data Science, Finance, Entrepreneurship, Creative Industries, Immersive Arts, Renewable Energy, Health, Transport and Education Technology." "This milestone reflects growing global trust in India’s higher education ecosystem and strengthens the vision of making India a global knowledge hub, powering youth aspirations and the goal of Viksit Bharat," Ministry added. The University of Bristol is a member of the UK's Russell Group and is known for its research excellence and strong global reputation. It consistently ranks among the top universities in the UK, particularly for subjects such as engineering, social sciences, and life sciences. The varsity ranked 51st in the world in the QS World University Rankings 2026. Established in 1963, the University of York is also a member of the Russell Group. It is recognised for its high-quality teaching, student satisfaction, and strengths in disciplines including humanities, social sciences, and health sciences. York ranked 169th globally in the QS World University Rankings 2026. The University of New South Wales (UNSW Sydney) is one of Australia's leading universities and a founding member of the Group of Eight, a coalition of top research institutions. The University of New South Wales is ranked 20th in the world in the QS World University Rankings 2026, maintaining its position among the global top 20.
