(AP Photo/Frank Franklin II) US Open has found itself in yet another controversy after fans raised concerns over a strong smell resembling human waste at a section of the Arthur Ashe Stadium. In a video posted by social media user @BaylorCarrots on TikTok, spectators can be seen covering their noses, according to the New York Post. The video went viral and had over 10m views. The concerns came days after world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka stopped a match after she complained of a strong smell of someone smoking weed. Meanwhile, the TikTok user alleged that the smell has lingered around for days, but the issue has not been addressed, adding that the organisers have continued to allow people to sit in the affected area. “When it smells like human waste, and the US Open has known about it for days, yet continues to allow people to sit in Section 310,” the user alleged in the caption. “We paid to attend the US Open and should not have to sit for hours in an area that smells like human waste. How is this acceptable?" he added. Several spectators also took to the comments section to express disappointment at the arrangements. One person claimed, “I was in section 310 yesterday. It was so bad! After I complained, guest services moved us for like the last 10 min of the Alcaraz-Paul match.” “Really disappointing to have to sit through it for so long [but] we spent so much [money] on tickets.” Shifting focus back to the court, all four semifinalists were confirmed after Alexander Zverev defeated Botic van de Zandschulp in the quarterfinal. He thus booked a semifinal clash against Karen Khachanov. In the other semifinal, it'll be an all-American clash between Frances Tiafoe and Ben Shelton. Tiafoe picked up a thrilling win over Alex Michelsen, while Shelton stunned the defending champion Carlos Alcaraz in a marathon five-set battle.
