Centre Extends Deployment Of 20,000 Paramilitary Personnel By Another Month Amid Security Concerns In DelhiOct 12, 2026, 18:15 IST
The decision was taken following an assessment of the prevailing security situation and intelligence inputs, with authorities continuing to monitor developments and maintain heightened security preparedness. As part of the broader security arrangements, a security audit of three newly designated protest sites has also been completed, sources added. The extension comes amid continued security concerns, with authorities reviewing deployment requirements and assessing arrangements at designated locations to ensure preparedness. In a standing order, Delhi Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar designated Ramlila Ground, Burari Ground and CBD Ground in East Delhi as the new venues for protests and demonstrations. The order said the decision was based on recommendations made by a committee constituted by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs to examine alternative venues for citizens to exercise their right to protest. Reacting to the decision, Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) leaders Abhijeet Dipke and Saurav Das claim, "the government will soon denotify democracy also." In a sharp reaction, CJP founder Dipke alleged that the Modi government’s decision to denotify Jantar Mantar as a designated protest site was an attempt to curb dissent. He warned that the move could eventually threaten democracy itself, arguing that the government’s problem was not the protest venue but "the very idea of people protesting".
