Photo: BCCI Ishan Kishan is set to make his IPL captaincy debut in the 19th season of the T20 league and he will be leading Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the initial phase of the tournament. SRH on Wednesday (March 18) announced that their captain Pat Cummins will miss the start of the season. The right-arm pacer has been down with a back injury, and he missed ample cricket in the past few months. Cummins was also ruled out of the 2026 T20 World Cup, but was expected to be fit for IPL. Kishan has the captaincy experience. He leads Jharkhand in domestic cricket and successfully led the India U19 cricket team to the final of the 2016 World Cup. Kishan-led Jharkhand won the 2025-26 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He forced his way back into the T20I squad for the World Cup after excelling for his state team. SRH, who entered IPL 2025 as the runners-up, had a disappointing season and they managed 6 wins from 14 matches. The Pat Cummins-led side finished sixth in the points table. SRH kicked off their season on a winning note, but lost four back-to-back games after defeating Rajasthan Royals. SRH ended their season with three back-to-back wins, but failed to qualify for the second round. In the end, they only managed six wins. Their game against Delhi Capitals was washed out due to rain.
