‘Win-Win Construct At All Times’: Nadella Defends Microsoft-OpenAI Reset (Image credit: AI-generated) As per TechCrunch, Nadella addressed a Wall Street analyst’s question and made clear that Microsoft sees the revised deal with OpenAI as a ‘win-win partnership’. He said, “We feel good about our partnership with OpenAI. I’m always very focused on any partnership and ensuring that there’s a win-win construct at all times.” Nadella’s remarks points out that one of the biggest takeaways for Microsoft from this deal is still retaining access to OpenAI’s technology, which includes its AI models and agentic tools. Highlighting the longer term access to OpenAI’s tools, the Microsoft CEO stated, “We have a frontier model, with all the IP rights that we will have access to all the way to ’32 and we fully plan to exploit it.” With OpenAI no longer offering its services exclusively to Microsoft, the concerns around competition grew after the Sam Altman-led company collaborated with Amazon Web Services. Nadella dismissed these concerts and suggested that the market is evolving and so a single company dominates it. Despite the revised partnership, Microsoft's AI business is still growing rapidly. The tech giant reported an annual AI revenue run rate of $37 billion. Nadella stressed that OpenAI remains a major customer of the cloud services of Microsoft. He said, “They’re a large customer of ours… on all the other compute sides. And so we want to serve them well.” The revised deal between OpenAI and Microsoft will eventually decide how the AI market turns out in the upcoming years.
