Tank Lid Sent Flying: Viral Video Captures Fiery Ukrainian Hit Near Moscow (Image: X/@ZelenskyyUa) Ukraine's latest drone strike on Russia was caught on camera on Thursday, with dramatic footage showing explosions and fires engulfing a major oil refinery near Moscow. The video, shared by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, opens with thick black smoke billowing into the sky, filmed from a moving vehicle. As the camera approaches the facility, huge columns of smoke can be seen rising above the refinery. One clip, recorded from an elevated vantage point, appears to capture the moment a storage tank is struck. The impact sends the tank's lid flying into the air as smoke and debris burst outward. Other footage shows multiple fires raging across the sprawling refinery complex, with dark plumes continuing to rise over the area. The same fuel facility had reportedly come under attack earlier this week. Russian officials described the strike as one of the largest drone attacks on Moscow in recent years. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said air defence systems intercepted a large number of incoming drones, although some managed to reach the Moscow oil refinery. According to Russia's defence ministry, cited by AFP, more than 500 Ukrainian drones were intercepted overnight across the country, including nearly 200 headed toward Moscow. Authorities temporarily imposed restrictions at Moscow airports, while debris from downed drones reportedly damaged residential and commercial buildings in the capital. President Zelenskyy said the operation was retaliation for Russia's continued strikes on Ukrainian cities. "This is a fully justified response to Russian attacks on our cities and communities and another important result of our warriors' work against facilities that sustain Russia's war machine," he wrote on X. He said Ukrainian security and defence agencies coordinated the operation and also targeted facilities in the Rostov region and Russian-occupied territories. "In recent days, all of our partners have noted the precision and effectiveness of our mid-range strikes and long-range sanctions. It is time the war ended and Russia must take the necessary steps in diplomacy," Zelenskyy added. The latest exchange came as Russia launched fresh missile and drone attacks across Ukraine. Ukrainian authorities reported overnight strikes on Kyiv and other regions, prompting air raid alerts across much of the country.
