(File Photo) Salesforce is preparing to eliminate dozens of jobs at its San Francisco operations, according to a formal notice submitted to state authorities in the US. The upcoming workforce reduction is scheduled to begin in October and marks another round of job cuts at the enterprise software major within less than a year. The latest announcement comes as several technology and digital companies reassess their staffing requirements amid rapid advances in artificial intelligence (AI). Etsy, TikTok’s US operations, Google and advertising measurement firm VideoAmp are among companies that have recently announced workforce restructuring or job reductions. The planned Salesforce layoffs are expected to affect dozens of employees at the company’s San Francisco office at 415 Mission St. The cuts are scheduled to start on October 5, according to the filing. The positions being eliminated include 37 technology and product roles, 34 administrative positions and three jobs in sales and distribution. While the company’s filing does not provide a specific explanation for the latest reductions, the move comes as Salesforce continues to make AI a central part of its business strategy. The upcoming cuts represent the fourth round of layoffs announced by Salesforce in San Francisco in less than a year, adding to a series of workforce reductions that have affected hundreds of employees. Salesforce has been increasingly focused on using artificial intelligence to improve productivity and reshape how its workforce operates. The company’s latest job reductions come despite strong financial performance. For the quarter ended April 30, Salesforce reported revenue of $11.1 billion in its first quarter of fiscal 2027. At the same time, the company disclosed $80 million in restructuring expenses during the quarter. Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff had previously acknowledged that the company had slowed its hiring activity, linking the decision to the growing capabilities of AI-powered tools. “For the last couple years we have not been loading up a lot more engineers,” he said. “The reason it’s been mostly flat is because we’ve been using AI to create more efficiencies for our engineers. And especially this year—now with these new coding agents—we’ve seen even more dramatic capabilities.” The planned job reductions are covered by a formal notice filed with state officials. In the US, employers carrying out certain large-scale layoffs, facility closures or relocations are generally required to provide advance notification under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act. The legislation is designed to give affected employees and their families time to prepare for potential unemployment and make arrangements for their next steps. Such notices can therefore provide an early indication of planned workforce reductions before the cuts take effect. Salesforce Has Already Announced Multiple Layoff Rounds The latest San Francisco reduction follows three earlier rounds of job cuts at Salesforce. In September last year, 262 positions in the city were affected. The company subsequently announced another round involving hundreds of jobs in February, followed by 86 job eliminations in June.
