Patna: Days after ending the Bharatiya Janata Party’s three-decade winning streak in Bankipur, Jan Suraaj Party leader Prashant Kishor has turned his attention to employment, promising to help at least 10,000 young people from the constituency find jobs over the next one to two years. Kishor made the announcement on Tuesday during his first visit to Bankipur since winning the August 3 Assembly bypoll. As part of his thanksgiving tour, he met voters and said his immediate focus would be on delivering on the promises made during his campaign. He also appealed to families with educated but unemployed children to send their CVs and biodata to his office, saying his team would work to connect eligible candidates with private-sector opportunities. Kishor said he plans to tap into his network of companies and individuals across India to help young people from Bankipur secure employment. However, he clarified that the initiative would focus primarily on private-sector jobs, and that he could not guarantee government employment. He also cautioned that some candidates may initially have to move outside Bihar for work. Kishor set a target of helping 10,000 families in Bankipur secure employment for their children within the next one to two years. “I am not travelling anywhere. I am working for you,” Kishor said, responding to criticism that he had remained away from the constituency for several days after his election victory. Kishor said the employment situation could be addressed on a much larger scale if the Jan Suraaj Party forms the government in Bihar. In that scenario, he said, his priority would be to create sufficient employment opportunities within the state so that young people are not forced to leave Bihar in search of jobs. The Bankipur employment initiative, meanwhile, is being positioned as a constituency-level effort that Kishor intends to begin immediately. Kishor's jobs announcement comes days after he secured Jan Suraaj's first-ever electoral victory by defeating the BJP in Bankipur. He defeated BJP candidate Neeraj Kumar Sinha by 19,324 votes in the high-profile August 3 bypoll. Kishor secured 64,151 votes, compared with Sinha's 44,827. RJD candidate Rekha Gupta finished third with 14,273 votes. The result brought an end to the BJP's uninterrupted three-decade hold over Bankipur, one of the party's strongest constituencies in Bihar. Kishor had established a sizeable lead early in the counting and continued to widen the gap, with the outcome becoming increasingly clear by the 15th round of counting out of 32.
