MPs protest during the Monsoon Session of the Parliament Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh on Thursday said that the Opposition secured "five major achievements" during the session. Addressing a joint press conference along with Congress' deputy leader in Lok Sabha, Gaurav Gogoi, Ramesh said, "I believe there are five major achievements regarding this monsoon session." "The first achievement is that the One Nation, One Election bill, which the government intended to introduce during this session, has been deferred until the winter session...The second major success concerns the Viksit Bharat Shiksha Adhishthan (VBSA) Bill that seeks the massive centralisation of all universities...the report was deferred until the winter session...The third bill was the Constitution (130th Amendment) Bill, which proposed the automatic dismissal of ministers, Chief Ministers, and Prime Ministers," he said at a press conference. He said that pushing the government to send the FCRA Amendment Bill to a joint parliamentary committee was also a success of the Opposition, adding that the final achievement was allegedly the ruling party’s failure to secure a two-thirds majority in Parliament. "They engineered splits in parties, breaking the TMC and the Shiv Sena, and attempting to break others, all to secure that tainted two-thirds majority needed to pass the delimitation Bill...now, it has become clear that there is no two-thirds majority. They do not have this majority, and they never will, no matter how hard they try," he said. During the Monsoon Session of the Parliament, while the Lok Sabha recorded 19 per cent business, it was 39 per cent in case of Rajya Sabha during the 25-day session, which concluded on Thursday. As many as 12 bills were passed each in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha during the Monsoon Session, but only one -- the Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026 or anti-paper leak legislation -- saw discussions in both Houses.
