Churchill Brothers Get Another Route To ISL As Jamshedpur FC Deal Revives Top-Flight Dream
Jamshedpur FC Gets New Owners As Tata Steel Transfers Entire Stake To Churchill Brothers |Courtesy - @Jamshedpur - X Tata Steel has officially transferred a 100% stake in Jamshedpur Football and Sporting Private Limited (JFSPL), the company behind Jamshedpur FC, to Churchill Brothers Sports Club Private Limited for a nominal fee of INR 100. Tata Steel holds 4.08 crore shares in JFSPL. Tata Steel and Churchill Brothers signed an agreement, with the transaction subject to approvals from the All India Football Federation (AIFF). The development comes after Tata Steel decided to withdraw Jamshedpur FC from the Indian Super League (ISL), triggering strong reactions from the football fraternity. Several current and former players came out in support of the club, asking Tata Steel to rethink the decision. Meanwhile, the deal between Tata Steel and Churchill Brothers includes the transfer of Jamshedpur FC's ISL sporting license, along with players' and coaching staff's contracts. Churchill Brothers is set to take ownership from September 2026. D. B. Sundara Ramam, Vice President, Corporate Services, Tata Steel, said: “Churchill Brothers is a club with real history in Indian football, and we are glad that this agreement gives our players and coaches the opportunity to continue playing club football. We thank AIFF and Churchill Brothers for their partnership in making this transition a smooth one.” CAS ruled in Inter Kashi's favour and restored their points, thus awarding them the I-League title. As a result, Churchill Brothers lost their automatic promotion to the ISL. Churchill then tried to secure a place in the ISL, but their request faced opposition from the AIFF and existing clubs, and their entry was rejected. They did not take part in the 2025-26 I-League and were later placed in I-League 2. Faham Uddin is a seasoned sports journalist currently working as a Special Correspondent on the sports desk.
