Joe Root played down any concern over his repeated LBW dismissals A chink in Joe Root's armour has finally emerged after the England batter crossed the incredible milestone of 14,000 Test runs, as the star batter has got into a habit of constantly being dismissed leg before wicket (LBW) during the ongoing home summer, where they are currently playing Pakistan after a three-match series against New Zealand. In 2026, Root has managed just one century, which came in the final Ashes Test against Australia at SCG during the first innings. Since then, he has batted 10 times in the longest format of the game for England and been dismissed LBW on eight occasions. This is the most for any batter around the world in 2026. In fact, he departed after an LBW dismissal in four of the six innings against New Zealand. Meanwhile, each of his three outings against Pakistan has ended after a bowler struck him on the pads. Root expressed confidence that he will overcome the problem and pointed out that he has overcome several challenges throughout the course of his career, which has resulted in him becoming only the second player in history to score 14,000 runs in the longest format of the game in Test cricket. The 35-year-old also pointed out he has been unlucky with umpire call dismissals. "I've played this game a long time and I've always found ways of solving those problems and working it through.I don't see this as being any different. There's a reason why I've got 14,000 runs and a reason why I've played the best part of 15 years at this level," said Root in an interaction with BBC. "Of course it's frustrating that there's sort of a trend. There are probably four umpires' calls within that, which could have gone the other way, and the ball is probably deviating more than it ever has.You try and be realistic and understand where everything's at, but also be aware of what you need to do to keep improving and keep getting better. I'm pretty sure I'll get through the other side. I'm not too concerned about that," Root added.
