ChatGPT could soon get a new feature that will allow it to learn your writing style by looking at examples from apps and services you already use. According to a report by BleepingComputer, the Sam Altman-led AI startup is testing a new Writing Style feature that can reference writing samples from connected apps and use them to make ChatGPT-generated content sound more like you. The feature is currently available to a small group of users. An onboarding screen reportedly tells users -- 'ChatGPT will write in your voice by referencing examples from your connected apps.' The feature seems to let users provide writing examples from three categories -- Messaging, Documents and Email. OpenAI reportedly lists Slack under messaging, Google Drive and Notion for documents, and Gmail for email. Once set up, ChatGPT will look at how you normally communicate across these services when generating new content. This means users may not have to repeatedly explain their preferred tone or paste old writing samples into every conversation. For example, the AI chatbot will understand the difference between how you write a professional email, a Slack message or a longer document and adjust its writing accordingly. The idea is similar to Claude's Styles feature, which allows users to provide writing samples and create a custom style based on their communication patterns. OpenAI's approach appears to go a step further by allowing ChatGPT to reference writing that already exists in connected services. This could give ChatGPT access to a much wider range of real-world writing samples and help it understand a user's vocabulary, sentence structure, tone and communication habits more naturally. However, it is not yet clear exactly how much content ChatGPT will reference from connected apps, how the feature will handle privacy, or whether users will have complete control over which content is used.
