The rate of 99.9 per cent purity gold increased by Rs 1,600 to Rs 1,56,600 per 10 grams, including taxes. Local traders attributed the move to softer crude oil prices and renewed buying interest in bullion following the recent selling pressure. The previous closing price was around Rs 1.55 lakh per 10 grams. Internationally, spot gold gained $50.96, or 1.17 per cent, to reach $4,392.78 per ounce. Gold futures also ended the previous session on a positive note. The October contract on MCX climbed Rs 1,309, or 0.86 per cent, to Rs 1,54,290 per 10 grams. The rise came as traders increased their positions amid firm spot demand. In the international market, gold futures gained 1.16 per cent to $4,392.24 per ounce in New York. Market experts cited the positive trend in global bullion markets and increased speculative positioning as factors behind the rise in gold futures. Gaurav Garg, head of research at brokerage platform Lemon, said gold prices have rebounded sharply following the recent decline. He pointed to a softer dollar and lower US government bond yields as factors encouraging investors to reposition their portfolios after the Federal Reserve's rate hike. However, he also flagged tensions in West Asia as a risk. "Gold in the spot market showed unexpected gains for the second consecutive day as falling oil prices somewhat offset the impact of the US Federal Reserve's tight monetary policy stance," said Praveen Singh, head of commodities at Mirae Asset Sharekhan, according to a PTI report. Singh also noted that elevated US dollar and bond yields continued to limit bullion's gains.
