(AP Photo) US President Donald Trump on Tuesday launched America.gov, an AI-powered government website designed to provide Americans with a central gateway to federal information, programmes and services. The website features a chatbot-style interface that allows users to ask questions about government programmes, benefits and services. The administration described America.gov as a “front door” to federal resources, bringing information currently spread across multiple agency websites into one portal. “It’s not just simply a website. It’s a restoration of America’s founding promise, and it’s a reinvention of your government for the 21st century and beyond,” Trump said during the launch. The platform is free to use, does not require users to log in and contains no advertisements US Chief Design Officer Joe Gebbia said the platform is powered by Google’s Gemini and Elon Musk’s Grok. Trump was joined by Musk, administration officials and technology leaders for the announcement. Trump also signed an executive order directing federal agencies to integrate their online services with America.gov, which the administration envisions as a single digital portal for accessing government information and completing transactions. The White House said the platform is eventually expected to allow users to carry out tasks such as renewing passports and enrolling in Medicare. The federal government’s existing Login.gov sign-in system will also be incorporated into the service. The order covers public-facing federal services used by more than 100,000 people annually, while IRS tax-filing services and certain national security-related functions are excluded. The launch also highlights the role of Gebbia, the Airbnb co-founder appointed by Trump in 2025 to lead the newly created National Design Studio.
