The Bull Fire, burning near Verdi in Washoe County, has prompted a Level 2 evacuation warning as the fire spreads across grass and brush in the area. The fire was reported about one mile north of Riverdale Circle after 10:45 a.m. Friday. Watch Duty reported that the blaze had burned about 80 acres across Sierra and Washoe counties, while Air Attack estimated the fire at 80 to 100 acres. A Level 2, or “Get Set,” evacuation warning has been issued for areas west of Somersett Ridge in the Verdi area. Washoe County officials warned residents in the yellow evacuation zones to prepare go-bags with water, food, prescription medicines and other necessities in case an evacuation becomes necessary. Residents have been advised to monitor evacuation updates and avoid the area. Officials also warned that people in the surrounding area could see large amounts of smoke. The fire is reportedly moving west and northeast, with winds primarily pushing it toward the northwest. Air Attack reported extreme fire behavior and said the fire had spotted across two gulches. Four large air tankers and two Type 3 air tankers have been requested, with additional resources responding to the incident. Truckee Meadows Fire & Rescue and Forest Service crews are working to contain the blaze, which is burning east of Dog Valley. TMFR said the fire is spreading at a moderate rate through grass and brush. Air attack aircraft are also assisting with suppression efforts.
