What's the one friendship red flag that should have you run for the hills? (Credit: IMDb) Anne Hathaway and Dakota Johnson have gotten on like a house of wild fire, ever since they began filming their latest release, Verity. Their dynamic became rather evident during the press tour for the film, where both have repeatedly commented on how surprised they were at having gotten along so well, so fast. One of the many rapid fires they did as part of their interviews, saw them both answer the question: 'What's the biggest red flag in friendship?' Scribbling their answers on their own small white boards, Anne revealed her answer: "When the friend talks shit to others in the friends group, it's so toxic, and it's just, awful." "That stems from jealousy," Dakota added, both fast friends ending their response in unison. Now it's a little too easy to share pointless advice like 'comparison is the thief of joy'. However true that may be, it is very much human nature to compare. And there's no ill in that. The issue however - especially in close-knit friendships or even in dynamics where one considers their friend not just a neutral party in their life, but a genuine positive well wisher - arises when this comparison not just makes it's way to your lips, but to the ears of other common parties. Badmouthing your 'friend' to people you both know, or are worse, friends with, is not just a blow to your own image in their eyes but also puts them in a rather vulnerable spot, even if you didn't mean to directly cause harm. You could absolutely disagree with your friend on how they're approaching a situation or any other such scenario which warrants a reaction from you, but there's actually a very thin line between real, constructive feedback and using a situation as the stepping stone to express everything you find 'wrong' with them. The latter can feel 'fun' in the moment but puts you in an awry spot, and your 'friend', in the dark. 'They hate you, because they ain't you!'
