According to a PTI report, the Apprenticeship Embedded Degree Programme (AEDP), under the Board of Apprenticeship Training (BoAT) of the Union Education Ministry, will be rolled out from the current academic session. The programme aims to provide students with hands-on industry experience while continuing their studies. Under this initiative, degree students will receive a monthly stipend of Rs 10,900, while those pursuing a diploma will receive Rs 9,600, the statement said. The initiative would help improve students’ employment prospects at the college level itself, the minister said. Following the state’s initiative, the University of Kerala has advertised the apprenticeship programme for Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUGP) students currently in their sixth semester. The proposed initiative aims to bridge the gap between academic learning and workplace requirements by providing practical experience, professional skill development and enhanced employability. The programme will also help students grab opportunities across industries, companies and government organisations. Initially planned for University Departments, the programme is planned to be extended to affiliated colleges in a subsequent phase. However, it must be noted that the programme is subject to Academic Council approval and completion of the required formalities.
