Jamia Millia Islamia To Resume Offline Classes And Exams From November 2 Amid Prolonged UnrestOct 29, 2026, 23:16 IST
Issuing a notice, Jamia Millia Islamia announced that offline classes and examinations will resume from November 2. The development came after the university assured protesting students that the process of approving and implementing the JMI Students’ Union Constitution will be completed by 2027, paving the way for the resumption of student union elections after nearly two decades. In an office order issued by the university, JMI said all undergraduate and postgraduate classes would be held in offline mode according to the timetables prescribed by the respective departments and faculties. All mid-semester, end-semester and other scheduled examinations will also be conducted offline. “Regular attendance is mandatory. Students must adhere to the academic rules and regulations of the University,” the notice stated. The university has directed deans, heads of departments, directors of centres and other officials to make the necessary arrangements for the smooth conduct of offline classes and examinations, including classroom facilities, seating and invigilation. The order, issued with the approval of the Vice-Chancellor, asks all concerned authorities to ensure strict compliance and circulate the notice widely among students, faculty members and staff. The decision marks a reversal of the university's earlier directive to conduct classes and examinations online amid the prolonged unrest. The university had previously announced that online academic activities would continue until January 13, according to the earlier order. The latest announcement comes after JMI declared that student body elections would be held by the last week of August next year, signalling a move towards restoring normal academic and administrative functioning on campus.
