To use UPI at Dubai Duty Free, travellers need to activate the UPI International or UPI Global service. (File Photo) Indian tourists visiting Dubai can now save on their airport shopping bills by using India's Unified Payments Interface (UPI). Dubai Duty Free is offering a 10 per cent discount on eligible purchases made through UPI, with the maximum benefit capped at AED 100, according to an official announcement by NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL). The initiative will help encourage digital payments among Indian visitors while making overseas shopping more convenient. The offer is available at participating Dubai Duty Free outlets and gives shoppers an opportunity to access additional savings without relying on cash or foreign currency. NIPL, the international subsidiary of the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), said the collaboration would make transactions easier for Indians travelling to the UAE. Under the promotional scheme, Indian travellers making eligible purchases at participating Dubai Duty Free stores will receive a flat 10 per cent discount. However, the total discount available under the offer cannot exceed AED 100. The initiative combines the convenience of India's popular digital payment system with shopping benefits at one of the world's leading airport retail destinations. Ritesh Shukla, Managing Director and CEO of NPCI International, said the partnership would help make international transactions more accessible to Indian tourists. "Dubai is one of the preferred international travel destinations for Indian tourists, and at NPCI International, we are committed to making cross-border payments as seamless and familiar as domestic transactions," he said. He further noted that the exclusive benefits at Dubai Duty Free would bring together the ease of UPI transactions and additional savings for shoppers. How Can Indian Travellers Pay Through UPI In Dubai? Indian tourists planning to use the facility must first activate the UPI International or UPI Global feature linked to an eligible bank account through their UPI-enabled payment application. Once the international payment facility is enabled, travellers can use their Indian bank accounts to complete transactions at participating merchants that accept UPI payments. This allows shoppers to make purchases overseas through a familiar payment platform instead of carrying large amounts of cash or exchanging currency before shopping. The arrangement is expected to make digital payments more accessible to Indian visitors while improving the overall shopping experience at Dubai's airport retail outlets. The partnership also involves Network International, which will serve as the acquiring partner for the initiative. The company will facilitate UPI acceptance at participating Dubai Duty Free payment terminals and handle transaction processing.
