NEET UG 2026: NMC Directs No Leave for Medical Students on May 2-3 (Source: Canva) Days preceding the National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test-Undergraduate (NEET UG), the National Medical Commission (NMC) has instructed medical colleges across the nation to avoid granting leaves to students on May 2 and 3, 2026. The order complies with the education ministry’s directive dated April 20, aiming to safeguard the sanctity and integrity of India’s largest medical examination scheduled for May 3, 2026. “In view of certain instances reported in the past, and as a matter of general deterrence, all Medical Colleges / Institutions shall remain vigilant and ensure that medical students are sensitised against any involvement in activities prejudicial to the conduct of the said examination,” the official notice reads. Therefore, to deter any potential misuse and to support the fair conduct of the examination, leaves have been denied, except in exceptional circumstances with due justification. In 2025, the ministry announced that an infallible plan to prohibit security lapses, irregularities, and paper leak allegations was being planned. Ever since the paper leak controversy happened, the authorities have been making extensive efforts to avoid such an incident in the near future. NEET UG 2026 will be held in a pen-and-paper-based mode on May 3, 2026, to offer admissions to MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BHMS, BUMS (AYUSH), and BSc nursing programmes at participating colleges.
