When people think of iconic skylines, cities like New York, Dubai or Melbourne usually come to their mind first. However, according to a fresh ranking, none of these so-called "iconic" skylines take the crown this time. Instead, a Chinese metropolis that often flies under the radar in global skyline conversations has emerged as the unexpected winner. According to Radical Storage's 2026 report, Shenzhen has been named the city with the world's best skyline as it beats out many popular destinations like New York and Dubai. The report, which evaluated cities based on the number and height of their skyscrapers, gave Shenzhen a total score of 7.1 out of 10, securing the top spot on the global list. The city has an astonishing 679 skyscrapers that rise over 492 feet high. This is a number that dwarfs what most cities can claim. To top that, its top-10 tallest buildings average a height of 1,371 feet - a figure that places it firmly ahead of competitors. While other cities might have one or two record-breaking towers, Shenzhen's skyline is defined by density and consistency, an entire forest of skyscrapers rather than just a few standout landmarks. In the list, 8 out of 10 cities are from Asia. The non-Asian cities include New York and Dubai. However, this was noy shocking since the Big Apple has 442 skyscrapers measuring over 492 feet and the United Arab Emirates skyline boasts 430 skyscrapers over 492 feet. For travelers, this report serves as a reminder that the world's most impressive skylines are not always the ones that dominate postcards. While New York and Dubai remain iconic, Shenzhen's sheer scale of skyscrapers tells a different story altogether.
