The incident happened at at 315 Hudson Street in New York. A 63-year-old man set himself on fire inside a Google office building in downtown Manhattan on Friday afternoon, according to the New York City Police Department (NYPD). The incident happened at about 14:58 local time at 315 Hudson Street, where Google occupies more than 400,000 sq ft of office space, police told the Daily Mail. Video cited by the New York Daily News showed the man entering the building's lobby before he was engulfed in flames. Security staff managed to put out the fire, and the man was taken to Weill Cornell Medical Center in a stable condition. Police said they found a collapsible baton inside the man's bag. Sources told the New York Daily News that the fire appeared to have started in his backpack. A building worker, speaking anonymously to the newspaper, said surveillance footage showed the man entering the building at about 14:00 before leaving and returning roughly an hour later. Another worker said he saw "flames in the lobby" from across the street. "Then the flames were running around the lobby, and security was trying to put him out," the worker told the New York Daily News. The NYPD set up a crime scene outside the building following the incident. The department's Internal Affairs Bureau is also based at 315 Hudson Street. No arrests have been made and an investigation is under way, police said. Rounak is a journalist with over 7 years of experience covering geopolitical and international affairs.
