A high school in Nebraska was placed on lockdown after authorities received a report that a student had a firearm in a bag. The Douglas County Sheriff's Office said an armed student was reported at Westview High School in the Bennington area on Friday afternoon. Deputies said the student had reportedly not made any threats of violence. Officers were searching the school for the student, with units arriving shortly after 14:00 local time. Omaha Public Schools confirmed the lockdown in an alert issued at 14:34. “Westview High is currently in lockdown and following our Standard Response Protocol procedures. We will communicate additional information as soon as possible,” the district said. Police officers were seen around the school, while a helicopter was also reported to be flying overhead. Students began being released from the building shortly after 15:15, according to First Alert 6. Parent Shelly Callahan told the station that an exchange student from Brazil, who was in her first week at the school, had messaged her from inside saying she was frightened. The sheriff's office has not said whether the student has been found or whether anyone has been arrested.
