Towhid Hridoy created history and broke multiple records | courtesy - Cricket South Africa Bangladesh cricketer Towhid Hridoy created history after rewriting the history books during the fourth and final game of the 2nd unofficial Test match between Bangladesh A and South Africa A at the Senwes Park in Potchefstroom. On Wednesday (September 2), the captain of the Asian side declared his team's innings by scoring an unbeaten knock of 350 runs as they posted 676-8, which helped them take a first-innings lead of 164 runs in the drawn match. Hridoy walked out to bat after a 151-run partnership for the second wicket at 161-2. The right-handed player played a memorable knock as he scored a triple century. His knock came at a fast rate as he faced only 482 balls to make 350 runs. Hridy broke Cheteshwar Pujara's record and now has the most runs in an innings for an 'A'/development side of a country in first-class cricket. The Indian cricket legend held the record for 13 years after scoring 306 runs for India A against West Indies A at Hubli in 2013. This also makes the Bangladesh star the first player to score a triple ton in an 'A' team's unofficial Test away from home. Hridoy has also set the record for scoring the most runs by an overseas batter in a first-class match in South Africa. The record was held by Denis Compton for 78 years after his knock of 300 runs while playing for Maryebone Cricket Club against North East Transvaal in Benoni in 1948. Hridoy's knock is also the second-highest individual score by a batter in first-class cricket in South Africa, behind only Stephan Cook's 390 (for Lions vs Warriors in 2009 at East London). The 25-year-old is only the third Bangladesh player to score a triple century in a first-class match. He also broke the current Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Tamim Iqbal's record for making the highest individual score by a batter from the Asian country in the longest format of the game. Most runs by a Bangladesh Batter In A First-Class Innings Tamim took to Facebook and hailed Hridoy for breaking his record. The BCB chief and former Bangladesh captain called it an extraordinary knock "Scoring a 350-run innings anywhere, at any level and in any context, is a remarkable achievement. But if that innings comes in South Africa, it has to be described as extraordinary. I am very happy that my record has been broken. Congratulations to Towhid Hridoy on making history. Becoming the first Bangladeshi batter to reach 350 is not just a personal achievement; it is also a symbol of the progress of cricket in the country," wrote Tamim. Hridoy has become a regular member of Bangladesh's ODI and T20I teams, having played 56 and 65 matches, respectively. However, he has featured in only one Test = match (vs Zimbabwe in 2026) so far. He was part of the Bangladesh U19, which scripted history by winning the 2020 U-19 World Cup after beating India in the final. Interestingly, that victory had come on the same ground where he achieved today's remarkable feat.
