Delhi Teachers Face SIR Duties Just Before Mid-Term Exams (AI Image) With the mid-term examinations drawing closer, teachers assigned as Booth Level Officers (BLOs) are voicing concerns over the additional workload linked to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Teachers involved in the exercise say they are being repeatedly called for election-related duties at a time when schools are busy with exam preparations, creating added pressure alongside their regular academic responsibilities. A member of the Government Teachers’ Association said BLOs are now required to report to their assigned polling stations following the publication of the draft electoral roll. Their responsibilities include assisting residents with queries, as well as claims and objections related to the SIR exercise, PTI news agency reported. The association has raised concerns over the continuation of these duties, particularly as teachers are simultaneously preparing students for the upcoming mid-term examinations. The teachers said the additional election-related responsibilities could affect the time and attention they are able to devote to academic work during an important phase of the school calendar. Notices issued by the offices of the Electoral Registration Officers of AC-65 Seelampur and AC-39 Rajinder Nagar showed BLOs and their supervisors being called for SIR-related work. According to the Seelampur notice, BLO supervisors were called for a meeting to collect electoral rolls and forms for distribution at designated polling station locations and discuss post-draft activities related to SIR. In Rajinder Nagar, BLOs and supervisors were asked to attend a training-cum-meeting covering SIR claims and objections, verification of documents, updating case status and other related responsibilities. Meanwhile, the Delhi government's mid-term examinations for government schools are scheduled to begin from September 14, putting teachers under additional pressure as they balance SIR duties with academic responsibilities. The draft Delhi electoral roll under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) was published on August 31, excluding over 47 lakh out of 1.45 crore voters.
