Man who assaulted student's father at CJP protest arrested from Bulandshahr Swatantra Bharadwaj, the man accused of assaulting a protester's father, was detained from Bulandshahr in Uttar Pradesh on Friday. The detention comes hours after the Delhi Police assured the protesters-led by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) that he would be arrested within 72 hours. Several teams were deployed to trace Bhardwaj after he allegedly fled from Naithla village on a Bullet motorcycle towards Khurja before the police team reached there to apprehend him. He was wearing a helmet, apparently to conceal his identity, officials said. Bhardwaj was detained in Bulandshahr and once his identity is established, he will be brought to Delhi Police's Parliament Street Police Station and would be formally arrested. Bharadwaj is accused of assaulting the father of student activist Nishu Azad during a protest at Jantar Mantar. A video clip of an interview with Swatantra Bharadwaj went viral, in which he claimed to have "cracked the skull" of Sanjay Kumar, Nishu's father, and said he escaped being jailed despite the seriousness of the alleged offence. The controversy intensified on Thursday after police said 38-year-old Kumar had suffered a simple head injury in a scuffle and rejected claims that his skull had been fractured. The CJP staged a protest, in the Capital on Friday, gathering at the Parliament Street police station to demand action against Bhardwaj and dispersed after being assured by police that he would be arrested within 72 hours. Nishu Azad said police assured the delegation that Bharadwaj would be arrested within 72 hours. "Police said they will arrest Swatantra in 72 hours. We believe they will take action and not keep delaying it as they were doing," she told reporters. "They have assured that they will add all the relevant sections in the FIR and arrest the culprit in the next 72 hours. Let's hope because the nation is watching... They are keenly watching what Delhi Police does... If action is not taken, we will come back," Ranka told Times Now Digital in an exclusive interaction. Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke on Friday posted on X, "Finally, Delhi Police have registered an FIR against the Sanghi goon and said he will be arrested within 72 hours. It took two months and a protest just to get an FIR registered for a hate crime that happened right in front of the police. POLICE DEPARTMENT THIK KARO!" Swatantra Bharadwaj has now claimed that what people are calling an attack was actually an act of self-defence. As his initial video, in which he allegedly claimed that he "cracked a person's skull", triggered a political storm, the 21-year-old said, "Had I not acted in self-defence, the mob could have beaten me to death, or I could have lost my life." He said he had video evidence to prove he did not attempt to attack them (protesters). "I have video evidence to prove it. I was surrounded by 10-15 people. When I took action in self-defence, they sustained head injuries. According to the Delhi Police medical report, they did not suffer any serious injuries.
