Vaibhav Sooryavanshi broke Sachin Tendulkar's record earlier this year |Courtesy - BCCI/ICC The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) declared their big ambitions for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and promised to ensure his nurturing is taken care of at every step. The Indian cricket governing body claims they want the 15-year-old to serve the country like Sachin Tendulkar did and not become a one-season wonder. For those unversed, Vaibhav, at the age of 15, broke Sachin's record and became the youngest Indian to make his international debut in July year. After earning his India cap at the age of just 16, Sachin had a remarkable international career which lasted 24 years and saw him become arguably the greatest cricketer to ever play the game. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia claimed they want Vaibhav to serve the country in a similar manner and are taking all efforts to make it possible. The top official also claimed caution has to be taken in his case and claimed the board is monitoring him from every angle. “We want Vaibhav Sooryavanshi or any player of his stature to continue and serve like Sachin Tendulkar did for the country or other players who in the past became legends. So we look at Vaibhav in a very serious manner. He’s monitored from every angle and every step he is taking forward in his international career. The BCCI is taking a very close look at his future," said Saikia in an interaction with reporters after a review meeting of the board in Mumbai on Thursday (September 4). “We are very cautious that every right step he should take forward so that it should not be a one series or one year wonder,” he added. Vaibhav will be next seen in action during the three-match T20I series between India and Afghanistan. He made a strong impression in his second series for India by winning the Player of the Series (POTS) in the three-match series against Afghanistan in July with two half-centuries. He became the youngest player in history to score a half-century in international cricket among full members.
