Kangana Ranaut Scolds Officials In Animated Exchange Actor-turned-MP Kangana Ranaut strongly reprimanded officials during the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (Disha) meeting in Mandi on Saturday, expressing serious displeasure over the slow utilisation of funds allocated under the Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS). Ranaut, who had arrived to chair the Disha Committee meeting, questioned officials over their inability to utilise the funds effectively. Expressing her frustration, she said the situation had become a “bloody joke” and claimed that the issue was making her a subject of ridicule in the national media, leaving her unable to speak freely about it. During the meeting, Kangana asked all the Block Development Officers (BDOs) present to stand and questioned them about the progress of development works. She said the MP’s responsibility was to provide the funds, while it was the officials’ responsibility to ensure that the money was properly utilised. She told the officials not to attend meetings merely as a formality, but to ensure that decisions taken during previous meetings were followed up with concrete action. Kangana questioned why several suggestions and decisions discussed in the previous meeting had not resulted in the expected progress. She stressed that merely preparing suggestions and plans would not be enough and that they must be implemented on the ground to identify the actual obstacles. She pointed out that out of approximately ?11 crore, even half of the allocated amount had not been utilised. She sought a performance report from officials on the utilisation of MP funds. She also expressed anger over what she described as the failure to execute works despite the allocation of funds. “It is so incompetent, so wretched... What am I supposed to say before the media out there?” she said. The MP also sought explanations regarding the utilisation of government funds, pointing out that in several cases, work had failed to progress despite funds being released by the Centre. She said some projects were held up due to land-related issues, while others were pending because of approvals and No Objection Certificates (NOCs). Kangana directed officials to prepare a comprehensive list of all such pending cases, clearly indicating the status of every project- how much work had been completed and how much remained pending. Separate lists should be prepared for projects completed to 40, 50, 60 and 80 per cent, along with a clear action plan and timeline for completing the remaining work. She further said that merely stating that the concerned party had been asked to return the funds would not be sufficient. A project should not be considered resolved until the money was actually deposited back into the government account. The MP directed officials to expedite all stalled projects and fix responsibility wherever delays were found. Kangana Ranaut emphasised that development works in the Mandi parliamentary constituency were being closely watched across the country and that negligence by government departments could send a wrong message. She warned that the performance of every department would be scrutinised in the same manner and that wherever negligence was found, responsibility would be fixed and a report would be forwarded to senior authorities.
