According to the sources, the case, which was earlier being investigated by the local police, will now be handled by the Delhi Police Crime Branch. Ranka and Das are among the CJP leaders who have been detained in connection with the outfit’s recent protests in the national capital. A court has cancelled the bail granted to the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) co-conveners Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das after finding that they allegedly breached undertakings submitted before the Special Executive Magistrate (SEM) on October 11, 2026, and subsequently engaged in conduct that raised concerns of a breach of peace. According to the order, Delhi Police argued that the two could mobilise people for further protests at Jantar Mantar, which had been de-notified as a protest site, as well as at other non-designated locations. The magistrate noted the police's concerns regarding the alleged repeated violations and observed that the conduct of the two respondents raised questions about their willingness to comply with the law. Their alleged practice of calling protests at non-designated locations was also cited as a concern. The court further observed that their assurance that they would not repeat the alleged offence was not sufficient to allay the apprehensions raised by the police. The magistrate also found that the preventive-custody application filed by Delhi Police was supported by material indicating a potential breach of peace and disturbance of public tranquillity. The court additionally raised concerns over the sureties furnished by Ranka and Das. The order noted discrepancies in the identity documents submitted by the sureties and said they were unable to provide satisfactory identification and basic details. The two respondents have consequently been directed to furnish fresh sureties. The order comes amid the CJP's ongoing protests and confrontation with authorities over restrictions on demonstrations at designated protest sites in the national capital.
