There has been a lot of noise around Bhuvneshwar Kumar's performance since his return to the Indian team (Credit: AP) Star bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar's comeback to India's T20I setup has not been ideal with the seasoned seamer finding it difficult to settle into the ongoing bilateral series in New Zealand. The 36-year-old, who has been out of international cricket for almost four years, has given up 139 runs in 12 overs in the first three T20Is while taking only one wicket at an economy of 11.58. In the first match of the series, he scored 49 runs without a wicket; in the second T20I, he scored 1/50; and in Wellington, he scored 0/40. India took a series-winning 3-0 lead while he labored. His return was predicated on two successful IPL seasons for Royal Challengers Bengaluru, who won two titles. However, former Indian batsman Ajinkya Rahane thinks Bhuvneshwar's return merits more attention than his stats. Rahane has advised against overanalysing the bowler's performances on his YouTube channel, citing his experience and desire to keep competing at this juncture in his career. "I think we shouldn’t judge and think about it too much on how he (Bhuvneshwar) has bowled. He’s quite an experienced player and would be analysing his own performance. The biggest story is him making a comeback. Even at his age, to have that motivation and dedication to play is not easy. His intent and body language has always been good when playing. Selector would’ve noticed that," Rahane said on his YouTube channel. Despite his present form, Rahane stated that things may change rapidly and that Bhuvneshwar might do well in the fourth T20I. "Performance can be up and down. Sometimes a bowler may not get the rhythm. So that is not the reason (to judge him). Bhuvneshwar knows where he can do better. For me, him making comeback at this age is the biggest story. We should all learn from this to not give up. As a bowler you need to continue to put in the work, things will happen," he said. “You never know Bhuvneshwar may end up picking a five-wicket haul in the next match. Things change instantly. Bhuvneshwar is a type of bowler who thinks about his game and is quite confident too," he added. Disclaimer: This article summarizes a report by Ajinkya Rahane.
