He reportedly travelled to Hyderabad for the procedure at Eugenix Hair Sciences, where nearly 6,600 grafts were implanted to restore his hairline and provide fuller coverage. Almost two years later, his hair transplant is back in the headlines, thanks to an interesting revelation by his children, Janhvi Kapoor and Arjun Kapoor, on Koffee With Karan Season 9. During the conversation, Janhvi revealed that her father was actually paid to undergo the hair transplant as part of a brand association, rather than paying for the procedure himself. Arjun also joked about the promotional banners featuring their father's transformation across Mumbai. While the revelation has certainly brought his makeover back into the spotlight, it has also raised an interesting health question: Is it safe to undergo a hair transplant at such an age? The short answer is yes. Being 70 (Boney Kapoor's age when he went through the transplant) does not automatically make someone unsuitable for a hair transplant. However, there is more to consider than just the number on the birth certificate. Read More: Can A Sudden Temperature Drop Affect Your Blood Sugar Levels? According to Dr. Gaurang Krishna, MD, Specialist Hair Transplant Surgeon and Dermatologist, and Director of MedLinks chain of clinics, a hair transplant can be safe even at 70, provided the individual is medically fit and has sufficient donor hair. Age alone is not a contraindication to hair transplantation. However, undergoing hair restoration at this stage of life calls for a more thorough evaluation. Overall health, scalp condition, hair-loss pattern and the body's ability to heal all play an important role in determining whether someone is a suitable candidate. While the procedure can be performed safely in older adults, certain risks need closer attention. Dr. Krishna explains that bleeding can be a concern, particularly among individuals taking blood-thinning medications. There is also a possibility of infection, although it is uncommon. Delayed wound healing is another consideration, especially in people with poorly controlled diabetes or circulation problems. Cardiovascular health also matters because the patient must be able to tolerate the procedure and local anaesthesia. A hair transplant is still a surgical procedure, irrespective of whether someone is 30 or 70. Therefore, a proper medical assessment is essential before going ahead. Dr. Krishna recommends evaluating blood pressure and diabetes control, heart health, blood counts and relevant clotting parameters. Doctors should also review the patient's existing medications, particularly blood thinners, along with donor-area hair density and scalp health. The patient's ability to safely undergo the procedure and recover afterwards must also be assessed. Age might not be the deciding factor, but certain medical conditions can make the procedure unsuitable. People with uncontrolled diabetes or hypertension, unstable cardiac disease, active scalp infections, significant bleeding disorders or poor wound-healing capacity may need to postpone or reconsider surgery. Inadequate donor hair can also rule out a successful transplant. Ultimately, a hair transplant at 70 is not automatically unsafe. A medically fit individual with healthy donor hair can still be a suitable candidate. The bigger question is not how old you are, but whether your health can support the procedure and its recovery.
