Anirudh Ravichander is among the most sought-after music composers of today, with his songs and background scores gaining top position in music billboards. However, veteran filmmaker and composer Gangai Amaran has put forth some questions about the direction of contemporary Tamil film music. Music composer and filmmaker Gangai Amaran recently shared his views on the changing trends in Tamil film music during an interview with Maalaimalar. Speaking about Anirudh Ravichander, Gangai Amaran challenged listeners to name a composition by the younger musician that could stand the test of time. "Leaving Ilaiyaraaja and AR Rahman aside, name one song by today's young music directors that will remain popular for a long time. Can you name even one such song composed by Anirudh?" he asked. He also spoke about the problems in Tamil film music, saying that the industry had moved away from the musical qualities that once defined its songs. Gangai Amaran also spoke about the language used in Anirudh's compositions. While praising the composer, saying he has developed a distinctive sound, he felt that Tamil was not receiving enough importance in his songs. "They compose songs without even knowing the language. Where do they show the identity of Tamil? He has definitely created a new style, and his music is good. But the truth is that he has not given importance to Tamil," he said.
