Vishnu Deo Sai announces early summer holidays for schools amid heatwave alert Given the increasing temperature in the state of Chhattisgarh, the Chief Minister of the state has announced that the summer vacations for school students will begin earlier than scheduled. Vishnu Deo Sai, the Chief Minister (CM) of Chhattisgarh, announced that this decision has been take keeping in mind the increasing severe heat and the impact of heatwaves in the state. As per the announcement made by CM on April 15, summer vacations in the state schools will begin from April 20. Vishnu Deo Sai added that the decision has been taken to ensure students stay safe during this severe heat and do not suffer from a heat stroke. "Considering the increasing severe heat and the impact of heatwaves in the state, protecting the health of children is the utmost priority," Vishnu Deo Sai tweeted on the microblogging platform 'X' (earlier known as Twitter). "Keeping this in mind, our government has declared the summer vacation for schools from April 20 to June 15, effective earlier than the pre-scheduled date—so that the health of children remains safe during this severe heat." The weather department has warned locals of a sharp increase in temperatures between April 17 and April 20. According to local reports, the forecast suggests that several areas may record temperatures above 5.1°C higher than normal, indicating a severe heat spell. Meanwhile, in Delhi, the Directorate of Education (DoE) announced a few days ago that the summer vacation for the 2026-27 session will be observed from May 11 to June 30. School summer holidays in India for 2026 are generally expected to run from early May to mid-June, with specific dates varying by state and school board (e.g., CBSE, state boards). The summer vacations, that will commence from the month of May in majority of the states and will last for nearly 30 to 45 days.
