How Will Your CBSE Class 12th Marks be Calculated? Complete Guide
How Will Your CBSE Class 12 Marks Be Calculated? Complete Guide The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is expected to announce the Class 12 board examination results in the last week of April 2026. Many students are pondering how the evaluation is being carried out or how their marks are calculated this year. If you’re an intermediate student having such queries, there is no need to worry, as we’re going to shed light on the CBSE evaluation and marking scheme today. From this year onwards, CBSE has introduced an On-Screen Marking (OSM) system, under which examiners have been asked to move away from the traditional method and check the copies digitally. This initiative not only makes evaluation faster but also ensures accurate results, with no room for manual discrepancies. Under this system, students attempt the exam in pen-and-paper mode, following which their answer sheets are scanned and uploaded to an encrypted digital platform. Following this, teachers are asked to log in to the portal using registered credentials and assess the answer scripts while sitting in their own schools. After proper examination of the copies, the examiners award marks to the students on the digital platform. Besides being a great mechanism ensuring zero manual errors, OSM has also reduced the evaluation timeline from 12 to merely nine days. This allows faster processing and publishing of CBSE Board Results. Students must note that only the ‘method’ of checking copies has changed; the marking scheme, weightage, and answer evaluation criteria remain untouched. In addition to the above-mentioned conveniences, OSM has also made things easier for the examiners. Unlike earlier, they now don’t need to travel to the allotted centres to check copies; instead, they can do it from their own schools. To be declared qualified, a candidate shall obtain a grade higher than E (i.e., at least 33% marks) in all five subjects of external examination in the main or at the compartmental examinations. The pass marks in each subject of external examination shall be 33%. In case of a subject involving practical work, a candidate must obtain 33% marks in theory and 33% marks in practical separately, in addition to 33% marks in aggregate, in order to qualify in that subject.
