Pat Cummins hinted he could miss the entire IPl 2027 season for SRH |Courtesy - BCCI After leading Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for the first seven games in the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL), Ishan Kishan could be handed duties for the entire 2027 campaign, as Pat Cummins has hinted that he could skip the whole campaign next year. The Sunrisers skipper missed the first half of the season this year due to an injury. The Australian captain pointed out the national team's busy schedule next, which includes a five-match test series away to India and matches against both India and England. The Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) will take place just before the 20th edition of the IPL from 21st January to 3rd March. Later, the Ashes are scheduled just after the league ends in June. Before the grueling series against England Cummins' men could have to play a World Test Championship (WTC) final too if they qualify (which looks likely as things stand). Later, the 2027 World Cup is scheduled to take place in Africa during the months of October and November. Cummins admitted that something will have to give but made it clear that it will be neither Test cricket nor the ODI World Cup, which are his priorities. The star pacer claimed he will make a decision that is in the best interests of SRH. “Something has got to give at some stage next year, and it’s not going to be Test matches or an ODI World Cup.“I will make a call a lot closer and work with the franchise to see what makes sense. Things can change. I’ve had a couple of injuries pop up, so I don’t really want to lock in anything. The priorities for me are always the Test matches and that ODI World Cup. I dare say if I play all of India, I need some sort of break before a pretty gruelling Ashes series," Cummins was quoted saying by the Sydney Morning Herald. Before the marquee away series against India and England in 2027, Australia also has a four-match home Test series against New Zealand in January. Cummins claimed that he, alongside Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood, could be rested for a few games to manage the veteran pace attack's workload. “Yeah it’s possible. I think we’re fairly open-minded to anything, as we’ve seen over the last couple of years. Whether it’s a home Test or an away Test, we don’t see them as that different. A Test match is a Test match. We’re pretty realistic that we’re going to need more than three fast bowlers. I see a world where we’re potentially winding some bowlers down, even say at the back end of an Indian series if they don’t look like they’re going to play, to give them an extra rest ahead of the Ashes," said Cummins. “I’ve played one [Test] in the last 12 months, so I’m feeling a lot fresher than maybe some of the other guys, but they are big series. It’s going to be a big push the next 18 months or so, but I think we’ll look back on it hopefully and see it as one of the more rewarding periods of our career," Cummins added.
