This series is a vital one for both teams to ensure that they are part of the 2027 Cricket World Cup that will take place in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia. While most teams can focus on preparation for the tournament, that is not yet the case for both teams, as they are yet to confirm qualification. For those unversed, the top eight teams in the ICC rankings, alongside hosts South Africa and Zimbabwe, will qualify for the mega event. The deadline for the same is 31st March 2027. The remaining six teams will have to play a qualifier tournament. As things stand, Sri Lanka is sixth in the rankings while West Indies is 9th. West Indies will hope to ensure they return to play the biggest cricket event after failing to qualify in 2023.
