Ajay Devgn announced his collaboration with Aanand L Rai. Their first film together is titled Chauhaan. It is set against the backdrop of Kashmir unrest. The title announcement video was unveiled on Devgn’s father, Veeru Devgn’s birth anniversary on June 25. Soon after the teaser went live, a section of the internet was not happy. Alleging that the film propagates hate against a certain religion and state, many voices were not in solidarity with what was shown. The dialogue, “Pathaanon ko keh do Chauhaan aa raha hai,” sparked a debate on the internet. The first glimpse of Chauhaan is set against the backdrop of civil unrest and stone-pelting in Kashmir. A section of people accused the makers of using communal dialogues to target certain communities. Calling it ‘propaganda cinema’, they condemned the team for spreading hate. One comment read, “Come on, Bollywood get over this nonsense. Kashmir has given India soldiers, doctors, engineers, athletes, artists, entrepreneurs, and patriots not just the stereotype you keep selling. If #Chauhaan repeats the same old narrative, it isn’t cinema,it’s prejudice.” Another commented, “Pellet guns do “limited damage,” since 2010, hundreds of Kashmiris have lost their lives because of their use. Thousands have been left completely blind, robbed of their eyesight forever. What more devastation do Ajay Devgn and #Chauhaan makers want to justify? @ajaydevgn shame?” One X user wrote, “Absolute mess! How do you breed and encourage such hatred! Sickening!” A tweet read, “"Pathanon se kehna chauhan aa raha hai" - abey gadhon Pathans also work in Jammu Kashmir Police and Pathans also serve in Indian Armed Forces. Never expected this from someone who i always considered a responsible actor, from Gangaajal to this crap, what a fall for Ajay Devgn.” Another X user commented, “Pathaano se kehna Chauhaan aa raha hai... Seriously? Was it even required? The plot was obvious but the dialogue made it sure - targeting a perticular community.” The makers of Chauhaan haven't reacted to the debate on social media. According to reports, the film is loosely inspired by a real incident that took place outside Jama Masjid. The Jammu and Kashmir cops were deployed outside the mosque on a busy Jummah (Friday). The crowd suddenly began pelting stones at the police and Central Reserve Police Force personnel. The stone-pelters were not aware that undercover police were tracking their activities. Chauhaan is directed by Neeraj Yadav and produced by Jyoti Deshpande, Aanand L Rai, and Himanshu Sharma under Jio Studios and Colour Yellow. The film is releasing on October 1, 2027. As of now, Ajay is gearing up for the release of Dhamaal 4 on July 10. DISCLAIMER: The article is a compilation of thoughts posted by netizens and satire doing the rounds on the subject.
