The Karnataka High Court on Thursday heard an appeal filed by actor Darshan Thoogudeepa and his wife Vijayalakshmi against the vacation of an interim injunction that had earlier stalled the release of the Kannada film Boss. During the hearing, the film’s producer gave a undertaking that the movie would not be released until June 30, offering temporary relief to the petitioners. The dispute begins from Darshan’s claim that the film allegedly similar to the ongoing Renukaswamy murder case involving him. The matter will be taken up again for further hearing on June 30. As per Live Law, the matter came up before Justice Pradeep Singh Yerur, who recorded submissions made during the hearing. Senior counsel Vivek Subba Reddy, appearing for Siri Productions, the film’s producer, gave an oral undertaking that the film would not be released until June 30. “We undertake not to release the movie until next Tuesday,” the counsel informed the court. Accepting the statement, the High Court posted the matter for further hearing on June 30, granting temporary relief to Darshan and his wife. The controversy around Boss began after Darshan approached a Bengaluru trial court alleging that the film bears resemblance to the ongoing Renukaswamy murder case involving him. The film was originally scheduled for release on April 14. On March 27, the trial court had granted an ad-interim injunction restraining the release. However, on May 2, it dismissed the stay application and vacated the order, clearing the way for the film’s release. In the High Court, Darshan’s counsel claimed that the court ignored audiovisual material pointing to thirteen parallels between the film and real-life events. The petition further stated that references in the teaser and the 'inspired by true events' claim could lead viewers to associate the film with Darshan’s personal life, this will be affecting his reputation and right to a fair trial. Darshan, along with Pavithra Gowda and others, faces charges in the Renukaswamy murder case. The High Court has previously intervened in related matters, including directing authorities to address complaints over media trial concerns. The case will next be heard on June 30, while the fate of Boss remains temporarily on hold. Darshan was last seen in The Devil, a political action thriller written and directed by Prakash Veer and produced by Veer and J. Jayamma under the banners of Sri Jaimatha Combines, Vaishno Studios, and Saregama. The film stars Darshan Thoogudeepa in a dual role, alongside Rachana Rai, Mahesh Manjrekar, Achyuth Kumar, Sharmiela Mandre, Roger Narayan, Shobaraj, and Srinivas Prabhu. Raisa Nasreen loves everything from the world of entertainment and shudders at the thought of horror films. Reading about film trivia and sourcing new... View More
