Apple Patent Hints At Camera Control Button Coming To iPadAug 19, 2026, 18:05 IST
It seems like the season of patents is going on as we have seen multiple consumer tech companies file one or more for different features and products. Now, Apple has joined the bandwagon, and the reason behind the same is pretty intriguing at the very first place. According to a report published by Apple Insider, a patent has been filed by the Cupertino-based giant dubbed Input System for Portable Electronic Device, consisting of more than 20 drawings and charts. Most of the drawings are based on tablet devices, and three of them include iPhones. The document does not use the names of iPad or Camera Control, rather than that, it refers to the component with technical terms such as an input number and strain sensing element, as per the report. The proposed system could detect the position and force of a user's input. It works on two strain-sensing elements that measure pressure at different points, letting the device work out where the control has been pressed. Apart from that, the drawings also show a separate dome switch, which is possibly designed to respond to a harder press, and the system will also provide haptic feedback. The combination is pretty identical to what we got to see in the Camera Control functionality that was introduced with the iPhone 16 series in 2024. The patent also suggests that Apple has been looking at another use for this tech instead of camera control. A previous version of the same patent was filed in December 2025, and the latest grant indicated that Apple is going to use the same with the introduced concept. But the use of the camera control-like mechanism in the iPad has not been specified, as in how it will be used if introduced in future iPad models. For those unaware, Apple files more than hundreds of patents every year, and a very few of them get to see the light. So, until there is an official announcement or leak from a credible source about the integration of camera control in iPad, nothing can be said or claimed with utmost certainty.
