Erin Piacenti, a 32-year-old Bank of America vice president, has been identified as the woman who was fatally stabbed in New York's Times Square on Monday. Piacenti, from Chester, New Jersey, died from her injuries after the afternoon attack, according to Reuters. Bloomberg News first reported her identity on Tuesday. Piacenti worked for Bank of America in New York City as vice president of Business Selection and Conflicts, according to sources cited by The New York Post. She had recently celebrated her second wedding anniversary on 10 August, according to social media posts. Bank of America said it was "shocked and deeply saddened" by her death. "She was a valued teammate who will be greatly missed. Our hearts go out to her family and all of her loved ones," the bank said in a statement to Reuters. Police said a woman attacked two people in Times Square at about 16:30 local time on Monday. The first victim, a 68-year-old man, was stabbed in the abdomen after emerging from the subway on West 41st Street, according to police. The attacker then continued towards West 42nd Street and Seventh Avenue, where Piacenti was stabbed in the abdomen. New York Police Department Commissioner Jessica Tisch said the attack appeared to be random and "unprovoked". Responding officers confronted the attacker and attempted to use a Taser, but failed to stop her from advancing towards them with knives, Tisch said. Police then opened fire, killing the suspect at the scene. The suspect was identified as Pamela Cisneros, 49. Police said she had been carrying two kitchen knives. The 68-year-old man was taken to hospital and was in a stable condition. Piacenti graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 2016 and Fordham Law School in 2021, according to her LinkedIn profile. The attack happened in one of New York's busiest pedestrian areas. Known as the "Crossroads of the World", Times Square sees between 200,000 and 250,000 pedestrians pass through it each day, according to its official website. The stabbing comes amid heightened attention on violence against corporate executives in New York following the December 2024 killing of UnitedHealthcare chief executive Brian Thompson.
