Apple has reportedly been working on a new Apple Pencil designed specifically for its first foldable iPhone, but users may have to wait for a long time before the accessory becomes available. Multiple reports related to the same suggested that the firm has internally prototyped and tested a smaller version of the Apple Pencil for its upcoming foldable device, but the accessory is unlikely to be launched alongside the phone. The report comes from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, and he stated that Apple has seriously considered bringing a stylus to its first foldable iPhone. Apart from that, the report also said that the Apple Pencil would not be identical to the models currently available for Apple's iPad lineup. The prototype is said to be shorter and highly compact, with its size designed to match the smaller height of the foldable iPhone. And yes, Apple reportedly also considered a magnetic attachment system that would let the Pencil stay attached to the side of the phone while also charging, identical to how current Apple Pencil models work with compatible iPads. Now, the design could create an obvious problem for a foldable smartphone. A Pencil attached to the side of the phone could interfere with the process of opening the device. Keeping in mind that the accessory would sit along the phone's edge, users could potentially have to remove it whenever they want to unfold the phone, even when they do not wish to use the stylus. This could also make the overall experience less convenient and undermine one of the main advantages of having a compact foldable phone. What's more is that Apple has not officially offered support for Pencil on iPhone. The device has been only associated with iPad until now. Apple's iPhone Ultra is going to be a premium offering, and adding a Pencil to the same could definitely make it more appealing to the users.
