‘Ambition is Not the Problem’: Prashant Kirad on Chasing Success Without PurposeSep 23, 2026, 17:39 IST
Ambition is often associated with success, growth and the desire to achieve more and more in life. However, educator and content creator Prashant Kirad raised a question about whether the pursuit of bigger goals in professional life and wanting more and more achievements always leads to a fulfilling life. Through his recent LinkedIn post, Kirad highlighted the way young professionals are often encouraged to chase better jobs, higher salaries, bigger homes, successful businesses and more achievements. This further becomes a trap and loop for the professionals. While he acknowledged that wanting more is not inherently wrong, he asked people to reflect on whether their ambitions truly align with their personal and professional goals. Kirad noted that people can sometimes spend years and years working towards a goal without considering whether they genuinely want the life those goals may create in the coming time. The desire to feel successful can sometimes become more important than enjoying the journey itself, Kirad said. “I've seen people work for years towards a life they don't even enjoy, simply because stopping feels like failure,” he wrote. According to Kirad, this pattern can lead people to continuously postpone rest and personal fulfilment while waiting for the next achievement. At the same time, he also noted that it very often individuals also end up convincing themselves that they will slow down or stop running behind achievements once they reach a particular milestone or goal. “Bas ye achieve ho jaye, phir I'll slow down,” he wrote, describing a mindset in which one goal is quickly replaced by another. He explained that this cycle or pattern can continue for years, with people constantly pursuing the next target without taking time to assess whether their ambitions reflect their actual priorities. Kirad also clarified that ambition is not the problem but the lack of clarity about what one is ultimately working towards as a potential concern. “The problem isn't ambition. The problem is having ambition without knowing what you're building towards,” he wrote. Further, he encouraged people to question their motivations before pursuing their next milestone. His post has emphasised that success is not simply about achieving bigger goals or meeting external expectations. Instead, he suggests people also to consider whether the goals they pursue genuinely belong to them. (Disclaimer – This article summarises a post by Prashant Kirad.
