Jamia Millia Islamia has given its nod to the launch of one-year postgraduate programmes through Open and Distance Learning (ODL) and Online Learning (OL) modes in 13 disciplines, including MBA. The programmes have been ratified in line with the provisions of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and applicable University Grants Commission (UGC) regulations and their amendments, said a university order. The one-year Master of Arts programmes will be taught in Education, English, Geography, Hindi, History, Human Resource Management, Islamic Studies, Political Science, Public Administration, Sociology and Urdu. The varsity has also approved a one-year Master of Business Administration and a Master of Commerce in Business Management through the ODL and/or online mode. They will be taught via the Centre for Distance and Online Education (CDOE), Jamia Millia Islamia. The September 21 order was issued by JMI Registrar Prof. Md Mahtab Alam Rizvi on behalf of the Majlis-i-Talimi (Academic Council). It said the measures adopted by the Vice-Chancellor would be reported at the next meeting of the Academic Council. The university has asked its deans, directors, heads of departments and other concerned officials to observe the directions, while the Director of the Centre for Distance and Online Education has been instructed to take appropriate action. On August 14, JMI approved the introduction of nine certificate programmes in the Centre for Distance and Online Education (CDOE) from the academic session 2026-27. The list includes Certificate in French Language, Certificate in Spanish Language, Certificate in Chinese Language, Certificate in Korean Language, Certificate in Japanese Language, Certificate in Russian Language, Certificate in German Language, Certificate in Indian Knowledge System, Certificate in Photography and Video Editing. Except for IKS and photography and video editing, all programmes have a duration of one year. Candidates who have cleared Class 12 board examinations from a recognised board can pursue them by paying Rs 8,000 (except for IKS, which costs Rs 5,000). “The action taken by the Vice-Chancellor, JMI, shall be reported to the next meeting of the Majlis-i-Talimi (Academic Council),” the notice stated.
