Vijay Sethupathi’s latest release Baththa has won the appreciation of filmmaker Shankar Shanmugham, who has now shared his review of the Balaji Tharaneetharan directorial. The filmmaker had penned his thoughts about the film, from its storytelling and performances to its music and best moments. While Vijay Sethupathi’s performance stood out to him, Shankar also mentioned out one of the film’s youngest actors for special praise. His review also mentioned about Balaji Tharaneetharan’s approach to filmmaking and praised Atlee and Priya Atlee for backing the project. Director Shankar Shanmugham has shared a glowing review of Vijay Sethupathi’s Baththa, praising Balaji Tharaneetharan’s storytelling, the performances and the film’s story. The director also mentioned the work of young actor Sai Prithiv Raj, who plays Sabari in the film. Taking to X, Shankar wrote, "#Baththa – A beautiful movie with a good story, humanity, excellent humour, and moments that deserve applause throughout. Very good casting and performances, and every close-up of every face is just superb. Best-quality & soulful performance by Vijay Sethupathi. The little boy #SaiPrithivRaj deserves a National Award. Lijomol Jose is so natural and graceful." Shankar also praised the film’s music and its moments. He continued, "Sai Abhyankkar's background score is fresh and unconventional, and it lifts some scenes to another level. So many touching moments filled with innocence and emotion. Congratulations to producers Atlee and Priya for producing such a quality blockbuster." He reserved praise for director Balaji Tharaneetharan, calling Baththa another memorable addition to his filmography. "One more unforgettable film from director #BalajiTharaneetharan. This is Balaji’s “Life Is Beautiful", he wrote. Baththa is backed by Atlee under his A for Apple Studios banner, alongside Ashwin Murugan, Murad Khetani, Priya Atlee, Alok Jain and Ajith Andhare under the Star Studio 18 and Cine 1 Studios banners. Interestingly, Atlee shares a professional connection with Shankar. Before making his directorial debut, Atlee worked as an assistant director under Shankar on Enthiran and Nanban. On the technical front, Baththa features cinematography by Selva Kumar SK, editing by Kalaivanan R and production design by T Muthuraj. Stunt choreography is handled by Stun Siva, U Pruthvi and Kevin Kumar. Baththa has opened in theatres alongside Nivin Pauly, Soori and Ram’s Yezhu Kadal Yezhu Malai. Jason Sanjay and Sundeep Kishan’s Sigma and Ashok Selvan and Preity Mukhundhan’s Anbil Avan are also scheduled to release this week.
