Trump Hints At US Joining Saudi Arabia In Striking Houthis Hours After Riyadh Airport AttackOct 11, 2026, 00:11 IST
Asked whether the US would join the Saudi-led response, Trump left the door open, saying a decision would come fast. "We may. We’re going to look at it. We just found out about the recent attack. We will make a decision. We move very quickly," Trump told reporters. The airport in the Saudi Arabian capital, Riyadh, was attacked again on Saturday and evacuated, two days after three Saudi citizens, including a pilot, were killed. A missile struck a complex that houses terminals 3 and 4 for domestic flights, and many people were wounded. King Khalid International Airport has been targeted multiple times in the week since a Saudi-led coalition launched a major military offensive, the 'Dawn of Yemen', against Houthis. The Houthis claimed responsibility for the earlier attacks, including one Wednesday that killed a Sudanese national. The Houthis had said airliners should avoid Saudi airspace, declaring it a zone of military operations. Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman had earlier sought help from the US in Riyadh's action against the Houthis. US forces have been providing intelligence and helping with target identification. Last month, Trump had reportedly been poised to order airstrikes on Houthi targets in Yemen after MBS urged him to step in, but he called off the operation at the last minute. Earlier, Yemen's President, Rashid al-Alimi, had also asked Trump for military help during a phone call, however, Trump made no direct pledge of support. The escalation threatens the crucial shipping route, the Bab-el-Mandeb, at a time when tensions between the US and Iran have already impacted traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.
