The shutdown aims to facilitate the seamless conduct of the screening test. As reported by Hindustan Times, a notice signed by District Inspector of Schools (DIOS) Chandra Shekhar lists 32 examination centres across government, aided and Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE)-affiliated schools. “The written examination of the Preliminary Eligibility Test (PET) 2026 is being conducted on 25th, 30th October and 1st November 2026 in two shifts each day (first shift - from 10.00 am to 12.00 pm, second shift - from 03.00 pm to 05.00 pm). Due to the examination being conducted on Friday, 30th October 2026, a holiday is declared at 32 examination centres (within the schools) of the district mentioned in the attached list. The above order will be applicable with immediate effect,” the notice cited by HT said. Another media report says schools in about 60 districts across Uttar Pradesh, including Ghaziabad and Lucknow, will remain closed today due to UPSSSC PET 2026. However, the scope of the closures may vary across districts, with some orders applying specifically to designated examination-centre schools. The move is driven by efforts to manage heavy crowds, ensure traffic management and maintain security, as lakhs of candidates are expected to appear for the exam. UPSSSC PET is short for Uttar Pradesh Subordinate Services Selection Commission Preliminary Eligibility Test. It is a state-level screening exam conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Subordinate Services Selection Commission for candidates seeking Group B and Group C posts under various Uttar Pradesh government departments. This year, the screening test is being held on October 25, October 30 and November 1. In case of any doubts pertaining to school closures, students and their parents are advised to get in touch with their respective school administrators.
